Rating :American Independent cinema can produce fantastic gems once in a while. Last year had Little Miss Sunshine, this years brings Juno, a no less pleasurable flick about the unplanned pregnancy of a 16-year old high school girl from Minnesota.
Word has that Ellen Page – Juno – is the new revelation of the year, and indeed the freshness of her performance is undeniable. She manages to preserve the innocence and fragility of her character while delivering a hilarious chain of cynical and sarcastic lines. Teenage pregnancy may hardly seems the obvious opportunity for an intelligent, sensitive and yet funny as hell movie, but that’s what Juno succeeds in doing.
Every single character is perfect and supported by the flawless performance of the cast, and if the movie is in many ways a social satire of small-town America, it does so with an perceivable tenderness for its protagonist.
There is not much else to be said. This is a must see of a movie, no matter what your tastes are, you will love it and you will want to see it again.
