And the thinnest is…
Apple’s new Macbook Air. That is now official, Apple uncovered its long rumoured ultra-thin laptop and as usual it is a pretty exciting piece of technology. The New Macbook Air boast a full 5h of battery while continuously accessing the internet wirelessly, an activity that usually drain the battery significantly faster. That alone would place the Macbook Air among the best in class since most ultra-thin long lasting laptops actually use an extra battery to artificially increase their battery life.
But that’s not the only interesting characteristic of this computer. The Macbook Air also weights only 1.3kg, a mere feather when I think about the dell “portable laptop” I am forced to carry during my business trips abroad. It pack some nice core 2 duo brainpower, an Apple trademark integrated webcam and… no optical drive! Indeed, the “Air” in Macbook Air aims at emphasizing the wirelessness of this laptop, which gets its data input entirely by this mean. Should you want to install a program, even your initial OS X setup, the laptop will either download it from the internet or access the data from any other optical-drive-equipped Mac computer connected via wireless. In order to do so as efficiently as possible, the Macbook Air is fully 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR enabled for lightning (well… let us not exaggerate) fast wireless transfer speed.
A very interesting piece of technology, that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
Have a look at it on Apple’s website
